Make More Money using Adsense Keywords
71Hub Metrics are Great, But...
... they're a little too late if you want to make money writing Hubs.
See, here's the thing. The Hub Metrics section detailing "Revenue Potential" is a pretty useful feature: it lets you know exactly how much your earning potential is from the hub that you've written. For example, my Hub 10 Quick Ways to Wreck Your Retirement Portfolio has a whole bunch of dollar signs, while 5 Quick Tricks: Write Like A Pro only has one.
That's great information to have if you're writing about things just because you're interested in doing so. But if you have limited time and want to write a quality Hub that will also have high revenue levels, you can use Google Adwords to let you know relatively how much advertising revenue you can expect -- BEFORE you go through the hard work of drafting and editing an article.
Advertisements are served by Google based on "keywords" in the article. That is, if your article is about apple pie, the advertisements will be about cooking and baking. If your article is about investing in gold, the advertisements provided will be financial in nature. The algorithm is pretty smart: if you mention the word "gold" in your article but the Hub is really about pizza, you won't get ads about gold.
Google AdWords can be used to determine how much advertisers are currently paying Google for ads about certain topics -- which will give you an idea of how many dollar signs will pop up in your HubMetrics BEFORE you've written the article.
Google AdWords
To get started, head over to the Google AdWords page and click on the button that says "get keyword ideas." That will take you to the Keyword Tool. Now click on the "Traffic Estimator" tool, which is accessible from the navbar on the left side of your screen.
This nifty little tool can answer an important question for you: "Which article topics have the highest revenue potential?" Obviously, it isn't magical, and can't predict the exact dollar amount of revenue you will receive. What it CAN do is help you decide what to write articles about.
Using the tool is pretty simple. Enter a ridiculously high value for CPC. Now, type in the topic of your article in the "word or phrase" box.
Look at the results. I've provided two examples, so click on the images to see them in full size. Advertisements targeted to the keyword "apple pie" have an AdWords CPC of about a buck. Now remember, this is the amount that ADVERTISERS have to pay GOOGLE per click -- NOT the amount you will be paid for click, which can be anywhere from 20-80% of that value. Using a conservative estimate of 30% revenue sharing, you would receive about 30 cents per click on your article about apple pie. On the article about gold investing, you could receive up to several dollars per click.
Google AdWords is a valuable tool for anyone in the world of online writing. Hopefully, it will help you increase your money-making potential!
